    Enjoying the Healthy Aging activities

My husband and I are retired and have tried several of the free activities offered. Our favourites were Smak Dab pottery and Chair Yoga at Mohawk Park.

Since doing the chair yoga we are continuing with some of the breathing, stretches and relaxation techniques. We already notice a difference in ourselves!

Every activity I participated in has been fantastic - from learning how to use my computer better (wonderful group at Brant Skills Centre) to trying new fitness classes at the beautiful Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre and YMCA.

The Healthy Aging Passport offered so much. I may not have had the opportunity to try everything, but what I did do has given me a new lease on live.

Now I know that keeping your brain young and healthy can be fun (thank you Heather).

It was really great to connect with other like minded seniors in our community. And even made... Continue reading

We attended the pottery adventure at Smak Dab Pottery at 432 Colborne Street on July 15th. Rose was a fantastic facilitator and shared her wisdom on the history of clay. We each made our own unique creation with lots of cheering from Rose and her assistant Julie. The setting was perfect from the studio, wandering out to her lush gardens when the rains allowed and the birds chirping in when they chose to. Thank you to the City of Brantford for organizing the sessions for seniors. We also enjoyed a wonderful lunch! We were not rushed out, Rose extended the... Continue reading

I’ve had an awesome time painting wood projects at Finders Keepers on King George Road. The ladies put together beautiful projects that we could paint using our own colour choices! I also had a great time painting with watercolours at the Woodman Community Centre and the Brantford Public Library. Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to experience these classes while enjoying the company of all the other participants.

I currently work out 5 times a week for an hour with my trainer. We do weights, aerobics, ball, chair, balance. I am using 12 and 15 lbs weights mostly and moving to 20! I also skate with a Synchro team once a week 9 months of the year and anytime I can get ice. I attend 3 to 4 yoga classes a week mostly Hatha to improve and keep my flexibility and strength. What an afternoon we had with Rose. There was a menagerie of animals, Rose loves her pets. Rose was an excellent teacher and patient. We had so much fun trying a new craft of pottery. We learned how to stamp our piece, underglaze and then build the base.. so much fun and everyone’s was different. Can’t wait for our pieces to be fired and then we can see the finished product. But wait that is not all, we had lunch of pizza from Maria’s, dessert from her sister Angie a delicious rum cake. We enjoyed our cake on the patio... Continue reading
