The City of Brantford is reviewing its Noise Control By-law that restricts excessive noise like loud music or barking dogs. The by-law is intended to balance everyday activities with the need to limit excessive or disruptive noise that would interfere with someone’s enjoyment of their home.
Since 2020, the Noise By-law has restricted excessive noise that is disruptive at any time of the day or night. Noises that are regulated under the Noise By-law include, but are not limited to:
Sound from stereos or speakers
Persistent barking
Noise from Fireworks
Industrial and Commercial properties are required to ensure their doors and windows are closed during evening hours.

City of Brantford staff are seeking input on the Noise Control By-law from the public. The short survey will help inform a staff report that will be presented to Brantford City Council.

How to file a by-law complaint
Municipal Law Enforcement/Property Standards Officers work to serve the City of Brantford 7 days per week (including evening hours) to respond to complaints and conduct proactive inspections in public areas throughout the city. Complaints regarding potential violations of the City of Brantford Municipal Code can be made by completing the City's Online By-law Complaint Form or by calling Customer Service at 519-759-4150. Please note that noise related to motor vehicles, such as loud exhaust systems, revving engines, or idling vehicles, is not enforced under the City’s noise by-law. Concerns related to motor vehicle noise must be directed to the Brantford Police Service.
