Consultation has concluded

Consistent with Brantford City Council's declaration of a climate emergency, the City of Brantford is committed to reaching net-zero carbon emissions by the year 2050. To meet our objective, we have developed a Corporate Climate Change Action Plan(External link) to reduce emissions from City run activities such as operating City buildings, buses & trucks and streetlights (just to name a few) and to begin building a Community Climate Action Plan to reduce emissions across the community.

The Community Climate Change Action Plan will act as a roadmap to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and target the various emissions sources in our community such as transportation, buildings, waste, industry, etc, and outline a timeline to implement programs, policies and resources to reduce emissions in those sectors. For example, one way to combat emissions from personal transportation is to use public transit instead of individual vehicles, so one program recommendation could be to increase frequency or service areas of Brantford Transit services.

To inform the drafting of a local Community Climate Change Action Plan, an initial public survey conducted in 2020 that engaged 237 community members in identifying priorities and ideas for reducing community emissions. To facilitate further engagement, the Let’s Talk About Climate Action Campaign was launched in April 2021, where community members could continue to share information and feedback through an additional survey, discussion forum, idea board, and question function.

We invite members of the public to come see how far we’ve come and share further feedback for how we can take this Community CCAP a step further. Two in-person Public Information Centers will be held where participants can show their support for specific actions outlined in the draft plan.

The Community CCAP Public Information Centers will be held on the following dates:

  • Monday, June 20, 2022, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. – Wilfrid Laurier University Research and Academic Centre (150 Dalhousie St.)
  • Thursday, June 23, 2022, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. – City Hall Council Chambers (58 Dalhousie St.)
