The City is excited to introduce an exciting proposal that will blend the serenity of Waterworks Park with the tantalizing tastes of the new ShackBar Café! Imagine savouring delicious treats and refreshing beverages amidst the natural beauty of our beloved park. This is more than just a cafe; it's a gathering space for families, and friends to come together and create lasting memories.
Our city has seen very positive development that is rooted in embracing collaboration, encouraging and embracing creativity and cultural development, increasing business diversity, promoting innovation and improving community and individual well-being. During the pandemic we saw businesses explore alternate models of service delivery, such as ghost kitchens and home-based businesses, and other creative ways to provide popular services.
A seasonal restaurant – ShackBar Café – in Waterworks Park embodies this spirit of increasing investment, expanding innovation, advancing culture and stewarding natural resources. The project exemplifies Brantford’s creative entrepreneurial thinking that reimagines the intersection of business, culture and beloved public spaces.
At 20’ long by 8.5’ wide by 9’ tall the ShackBar Café will be housed in a retrofitted shipping container, that is fully transportable/removable on a flatbed trailer, making it an entirely temporary use. The restaurant’s menu is proposed to include, coffee, tea and smoothies; pastries, fruit, yogurt and bagels; fresh squeezed juices; Hawaiian shaved ice and ice cream; charcuterie, sandwiches and salads. The restaurant would also be licensed for beer, high end wine and fancy cocktails. Patrons will also enjoy the grassed area to play yard games.
There is no additional lighting to be proposed, so ShackBar Café’s hours of operation would be dependent on natural light to keep patrons safe. Beginning in spring/summer 2024, ShackBar Café’s operating hours would be Tuesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to dusk and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The location is ideal given the convenience of the adjacent parking lot that will be repaved prior to the proposed opening in spring/summer 2024.
🌿 Eco-Friendly Elegance 🌿
We're committed to preserving the park's natural charm. The ShackBar Cafe will be constructed with sustainable materials and energy-efficient systems, complementing the park's eco-friendly ethos. Outdoor seating areas will be carefully designed to harmonize with the surroundings, providing a cozy spot to relax and enjoy your meal.
