What is or can be done about stricter enforcement of the fireworks bylaws?

jon.jaques asked about 1 month ago

Thank you for your question. In 2025 the Fire Dept and Bylaw received over 70 calls for fireworks. A total of 18 charges were issued for those found committing violations of the by-law. Since then, staffing schedules have been changed to ensure that more staff are available on weekends, which are historically known to have firework celebrations. Right now, City of Brantford Bylaw Officers work 7 days a week from 7 a.m. to midnight and 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. during the summer.

It’s important to note that bylaw charges can only be issued when an officer sees a person committing the offence or has recorded proof of the violation and the person responsible.
