Consultation has concluded

In June 2021, the government of Ontario passed the Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act (TSSEA), as part of the Moving Ontarians More Safely Act (Bill 282). Under the TSSEA:

  • Tow operators, tow truck drivers, and vehicle storage operators are required to be certified and meet prescribed requirements and standards; and
  • Standards for customer protections and roadside behaviours will be established, including penalties for non-compliance.

Consistent with the provincial government’s direction to municipalities to adopt local towing services regulations, and in response to increased concern with tow truck solicitation at motor vehicle accident occurrences locally, Brantford City Council is considering the adoption of local Tow Truck Regulations to further assist in reducing criminal activity and enhancing road safety.

In the interest of public safety and consumer protection, we want to hear from you to inform the potential development of a City of Brantford Tow Truck By-law to regulate towing services in our community. Please provide your input using the Survey tool below.
