Consultation has concluded
International Women's Day (IWD) has occurred for over a century (External link)with the first gathering held in 1911. The day reflects on and celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender equality.
Marked annually on March 8th, International Women's Day (IWD) is an important day to:
- Celebrate women's achievements
- Raise awareness about discrimination
- Take action to drive gender equality
March 8th Events and Activities
- IWD Flag Raising and City Hall Illumination – Members of the community are invited to attend a Flag Raising Ceremony where the IWD flag will be raised at Harmony Square, 89 Dalhousie St, Brantford at 10:00 a.m. City Hall will also be illuminated in purple on the evening of March 8th in celebration of Women’s Day in Brantford.
- Women in Business Expo: March 8, 2024 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Marriot Brantford Convention Centre. Admission is free. https://womeninbusinessexpo.ca/
Women in Governance: A Candid Conversation – March 20, 2024
Join us for an engaging and insightful discussion that promises candid conversation, exploring the challenges that women face in the political arena and the inspiring stories of overcoming these obstacles. Brantford City Councillors Rose Sicoli, Linda Hunt and Mandy Samwell will be joined by panelists including, Emily McIntosh, Executive Director of CONTACT Community Services and initiator of The Women of Ontario Say No, Tracey Vaughan, CAO of The Township of Coburg, Natasha Solonen, Mayor, Wilmot, and Ann-Marie Kungl, City Councillor, Barrie, among others that will be announced prior to the event.
Members of the public have the option to attend this event in person or virtually and the discussion will be recorded on the City’s YouTube channel for future viewing.
