Thank you for participating in Emergency Preparedness Week!

The City of Brantford joins communities across Canada to recognize May 1 to 7, 2022 as Emergency Preparedness Week, encouraging residents to take concrete actions that will better prepare themselves and their families during emergencies. By taking a few simple steps, everyone can become better prepared to face a range of emergencies such as floods, tornadoes, hazardous spills incidents and more.

Emergency Preparedness Photo Contest

You could win your very own 72-hour emergency go-bag valued at over $150.00 from the Brantford Fire Department. Send us a picture of how you have prepared to shelter-in-place in the event of a hazardous material release by using the "Ideas" tab below. This type of sheltering-in-place will require the following actions to help avoid exposure:

  • Bring in pets where immediately able to do so.
  • Close all windows and exterior doors.
  • Shut down your furnace, air conditioners, exhaust fans and vents.
  • Close fireplace dampers.
  • Grab your emergency kit including essential items such as money, radio, cell phone with its charger, non-perishable and special foods, baby and pet supplies, valuable documents as well as medicine and medical assistive devices.
  • Shelter-in-place in the most central interior room. Do not use the basement.
  • Seal any doors, windows, vents with tape, plastic sheeting or other available impermeable material. Wet towels placed at the base of doors may be used if you cannot seal them with impermeable material.
  • Listen to instructions from local authorities and emergency services via radio, television, websites (www.brantford.ca) and/or social media from credible sources.
