The City of Brantford is dedicated to protecting the health of its residents, our local economy and the environment. Climate Change impacts us all. That’s why we’re seeking feedback on what should be included in our new Climate Change Action Plan.

The world’s climate is changing and the effects can be seen everywhere, even locally. Climate Change is more than melting ice caps and global warming. While increased temperatures and prolonged heat waves are on the rise, we’re also experiencing greater rainfalls, flooding, extreme weather, and the devastating effects of wildfires. By updating our Climate Change Action Plans, we can focus on how our community can work together to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.

In 2019, the City of Brantford declared a Climate Emergency, committing the City to reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Since then, the City has developed and implemented Corporate and Community Climate Change Action Plans to help the City and community members reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Some of our actions taken to date include:

  • Converting streetlights to LED
  • Developing a Net-Zero Building Standard for all new municipally owned buildings
  • Completing a Transit Optimization Study
  • Implementing a green bin program
  • Growing our tree canopy
  • Planning for City buildings and vehicles to be low or zero carbon

By completing our Climate Action Plan Survey, you can help shape the future of our community.
